Kobus ellipsiprymnus defassa
Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN):
Quasi menacée (NT)
It stays near water — not to swim, but to stay safe.
Defassa waterbucks are heavyset antelopes with a strong, musky scent and a white ring on their rump like a painted target. They graze in tall grass and keep close to cover, alert to every shift in the breeze.
Males hold small territories and defend them with short, fierce clashes. Females gather in loose groups, often quiet, often watching.
They’re not the fastest, but they know where to run: toward the reeds, toward the river, toward escape. Strong legs, thick coat, and a cautious mind — built for the margins.
