Phacochoerus africanus
Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN):
Préoccupation mineure (LC)
It trots with its tail straight up — like a flag in the grass.
Warthogs are tough, alert, and not nearly as clumsy as they look. They kneel to graze, sleep in burrows, and reverse in quickly to face whatever might follow. The tusks are real — sharp, curved, and used in serious fights. But most of the time, warthogs avoid trouble. A burst of speed and they’re gone, tails high, legs moving fast.
They live in open savannas and woodlands, often near water, often on edge. Not graceful, not gentle — but perfectly suited to the wild they call home.
