Meeting the Vervet Monkey

Chlorocebus pygerythrus

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): Préoccupation mineure (LC)

Small, sharp-eyed, and never far from the trees.

Vervet monkeys live in tight social groups with constant movement — climbing, calling, grooming, stealing. Their faces are black, framed by pale fur, with eyes that miss nothing.

Males are easy to spot: they carry striking turquoise testicles, visible and unmistakable — a signal in both hierarchy and health.
They adapt easily, living near rivers, forests, farms, even towns. Curious but cautious, they know when to push limits — and when to vanish.

Light, fast, and smarter than they let on.
