Meeting the Finlayson’s Squirrel

Callosciurus finlaysonii

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): Préoccupation mineure (LC)

White, black, red, or a mix of all three — no two look quite the same.

Finlayson’s squirrels are quick, confident climbers, often seen darting through trees or bounding along rooftops. They feed on fruit, nuts, bark, and sometimes sap, moving with sharp energy and little fear.

Native to Southeast Asia, they thrive in forests, parks, and temple grounds — often close to people, but never tame. Their colors stand out, but they’re no easier to catch — one flick of the tail, and they’re gone. Familiar in some places, unnoticed in others — but always watching from the branches above.
