Meeting the Philippine Tarsier

Carlito syrichta

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): Quasi menacée (NT)

It fits in your hand, but its eyes are bigger than its brain.

Mostly still, barely blinking — the tarsier waits. It hunts at night, leaping between branches to catch insects with sudden precision. During the day, it clings to trees in the shadows. Alone, silent, almost invisible. Even its toes are built for gripping.

Tarsiers are found only in a few islands in the Philippines. They need old forests, dense cover, and no disturbances. They look fragile — and they are. But they’re also survivors, holding on in pockets of what once was.
