Setonix brachyurus
Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN):
Vulnérable (VU)
Round cheeks, bright eyes, and a face that always seems to smile. Quokkas live on islands off Western Australia, feeding on grasses and leaves, sheltering in dense undergrowth, and moving mostly at night.
They’re curious but cautious, often bold around people where predators are few. On Rottnest Island, they’ve become icons — photographed endlessly, often mid-chew, often mid-blink.
But behind the charm is a wild animal with wild instincts: strong hind legs, sharp claws, and a constant awareness of heat, drought, and survival. Famous for their look — but deserving attention for much more.
