Meeting the Asian Elephant

Elephas maximus

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): En danger (EN)

Smaller ears, smoother skin, and a calm presence that fills the forest.

Asian elephants move through dense jungle and open grasslands, pulling branches, clearing paths, and shaping the land as they go.
Their social bonds run deep — females stay in family groups led by older matriarchs, while males often travel alone. Their movements are steady, their memories long.

They’re more reserved than African elephants, but just as intelligent, just as emotional. In many places, they walk the edge between wild and human — carrying centuries of coexistence, conflict, and reverence.
