Meeting the Topi

Damaliscus lunatus jimela

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): Vulnérable (VU)

It stands tall on termite mounds, scanning the plains. Topis are sleek, long-legged antelopes with a deep chestnut coat and polished black patches on their face and legs. They live in open grasslands, where visibility means survival.

Fast and agile, they can sprint when needed — but more often, they rely on awareness. One topi watches while the others graze. Then they switch.

Males defend small territories during the breeding season, showing off with short chases and proud stances. Sharp-eyed, tense, and made for heat — topis are always one second away from motion.
