Alouatta palliata
Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN):
Vulnérable (VU)
You’ll hear it before you see it (if you can see it) — a low, guttural roar rolling through the canopy at dawn.
Mantled howlers live high in the trees, feeding mostly on leaves, with slow movements and steady habits. Their black fur drapes over their sides like a cloak, and their long prehensile tails grip branches as they climb.
They travel in small groups, rarely rushing, rarely silent. The males call to mark space — not to fight, but to be heard. They are the voice of the forest morning — ancient, distant, and impossible to ignore.
