Meeting the Black Rhinoceros

Diceros bicornis

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): En danger critique (CR)

It prefers cover to open ground — and solitude to company.

The black rhino is smaller than the white, but more agile, more wary, and more likely to charge. Its hooked lip is made for browsing — pulling leaves and twigs from bushes and trees.

It moves quietly through thickets, often unseen until it’s close. Sight is poor, but scent and instinct make up for it.
It lives alone, except for mothers with calves. Every encounter is brief — or dangerous.

Heavily protected, deeply threatened, and still holding its ground.
