Meeting the Black-backed Jackal

Lupulella mesomelas

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): Préoccupation mineure (LC)

Light on its feet and quick to adapt, the jackal survives by staying sharp.

It hunts small prey, scavenges when it can, and rarely passes up a meal. Alone or in pairs, it moves with purpose — ears twitching, nose to the wind, always listening.

Black-backed jackals are territorial and vocal. Their calls carry far at dusk, rising above the sounds of larger predators. They’re often in the background, on the edges — but they see everything. In a landscape of giants, they’ve learned how to last.
