Callosciurus notatus
[conservation_status]
Chestnut sides, sharp claws, and a tail like a banner. Plantain squirrels race along branches and leap across gaps with ease. They forage for fruit, seeds, flowers, and sometimes bird eggs — fast, agile, and always alert.
You’ll hear them before you see them: a burst of chatter, a rustle in the canopy, a streak of movement down a tree trunk. They’re common in parks, gardens, and forest edges, thriving wherever there are trees to climb and food to raid.
Small, but never dull — a blur of life in the green above.
