Meeting the Eurasian Wild Boar

Sus scrofa

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): Préoccupation mineure (LC)

Heavy-bodied, bristled, and sharper than it looks. Wild boars root through soil and leaf litter with constant focus — searching for roots, bulbs, insects, and anything else they can eat. Their snouts are strong, their sense of smell exceptional.

They’re mostly active at night or in the quiet of early morning, moving through forests, farmlands, and scrub. Sows lead family groups called sounders. Males roam alone, especially as they get older.

Hard to see, harder to approach — but they’re everywhere. Resilient, cautious, and perfectly suited to the edge of the wild.
