Meeting the Raffles’ Banded Langur

Presbytis femoralis

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): En danger critique (CR)

Black fur, white markings, and a gaze that rarely lingers. This langur lives high in the canopy, feeding on young leaves, shoots, and unripe fruit. It moves carefully, silently — more shadow than presence.

Once common in parts of Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia, it’s now critically endangered, holding on in just a few forest patches. Habitat loss and fragmentation have pushed it to the edge.

Groups are small, movements cautious, voices seldom heard. To see one is rare. To watch one, even briefly, is a privilege. Delicate, disappearing, and deeply tied to the forests it depends on.
