Meeting the Blue Wildebeest

Connochaetes taurinus

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): Préoccupation mineure (LC)

They move in numbers — heads low, hooves steady, eyes scanning.

Blue wildebeest are grazers, travelers, part of the rhythm of the plains. In some places, they migrate in the thousands. In others, they stay put, moving with the rain. Their build is odd — heavy front, thin legs, sloping back — but it works. They can run fast, change direction, cross rivers, outrun trouble when they have to.

Lions, hyenas, crocs — they know the risks. But movement is their way of life. Open savannas, wide skies, distant storms — that’s their world.
