Meeting the Long-tailed Macaque

Macaca fascicularis

Statut de Conservation (Liste Rouge de l'UICN): En danger (EN)

Curious, quick, always aware — long-tailed macaques are rarely still. They live in groups, full of movement and tension. Grooming, chasing, stealing, shouting. The social rules are complex, and rank matters.

They’re clever, adaptable, and never far from water. Mangroves, forests, temple grounds — even city edges. They eat fruits, crabs, leaves, and leftovers. Watch one long enough and you’ll see sharp eyes, subtle gestures, moments of planning. They aren’t just reacting — they’re calculating.

Familiar in some places, overlooked in others — but never boring.
