Vulnerable (VU)

Vulnerable (VU)

Species classified as Vulnerable (VU) by the IUCN Red List face a high risk of extinction in the wild.

The Vulnerable status is a warning sign—these species are already in decline due to habitat destruction, hunting, climate change, and other threats.

These species typically have already experienced significant population declines or have limited habitat ranges that put them at high risk of extinction in the near future.

If conservation efforts are not implemented, many Vulnerable species could soon become Endangered or even Critically Endangered.

Vulnerable species are key indicators of environmental health—their decline signals deeper issues in ecosystems. Protecting them helps conserve entire habitats and the countless species that depend on them.
